#GoOpen Summit

The #GoOpen Regional Summits are intended for new districts who are curious about making a scalable transition to openly licensed educational resources (OERs), as well as districts who are looking to further their use of OERs. The day is also designed for districts who have done some work on making this transition and can offer insights and networking during the workshops throughout the day.

Tentative Schedule:

7:30: Registration

8:00 - 9:00 am: Opening Remarks & Sarah Weston keynote

9:00 am - 12:00 pm: Breakout Sessions - some specific by site; at least one live streamed to other sites

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm: Lunch TBD (Check location pages for information)

1:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Content area-specific work time and playground - take a deeper dive into some of what you learned about this morning with others who teach the same thing as you!

Keynote Speaker

Sarah Weston, Technology and OER Director for Mountain Heights Academy in West Jordan, Utah, will be the keynote speaker. Her role includes overseeing all course development and teacher training on building with OER. In 2011, 2013, and 2014, Mountain Heights Academy was awarded Best of State in Curriculum Development. In 2015, Mountain Heights won an Open Education Excellence Award for Outstanding Site and Outstanding Courses. Her keynote will be livestreamed from Lewis Central to the satellite locations. The rest of the day will be planned out by the individual locations.

#GoOpen Summit Goals:

  1. District leaders will be able to reliably distinguish between and identify the advantages, disadvantages, limitations, and tradeoffs of open, free, CC licensing
  2. Become familiar with #GoOpen Launch Packet and identify the readiness of each district and where they are in the process
  3. Showcase OER work of districts through conversations and presentations
  4. Develop mentor and peer relationships between districts and between districts and state leaders that lead to long term collaboration.

Who should attend?

  • Teachers looking to enhance current curriculum with OER resources.
  • Districts who are curious about making a scalable transition to openly licensed educational resources.
  • Districts who have done some work on making this transition and can offer to facilitate one or more of the workshops throughout the day.
  • Library Media Specialist
  • District teams - technology coordinators, curriculum directors, principals, superintendents, etc. - of up to 10 people.
